Who buys on the West Side?

Many of them are liberal thinkers, advocates and socially conscious. They discovered capitalism, started to have children and make money and yet still felt committed to making a better world. They were attracted to the West Side because of the large number of family-sized apartments and the services and ambience of the neighborhood.

There are young studio buyers, families with two or three kids and senior citizens who have lived in the same apartment for most of their adult lives. There are buyers who are very wealthy and living in prestige buildings on Central Park West and young buyers living in newly-constructed properties and along Riverside Boulevard in the Sixties.

What is it like living on the West Side?

People on the West Side really do think that they live in their own little world. They never go anywhere else because everything they need is here.

A friend of mine once said that the difference between the West Side and the East Side is the size of the dry cleaning bills. The West Side is more casual and has no airs. People are just people without a concern about looking “just so” as they walk down the street. They know and love each other and they never really want to move.
