What does the Upper East Side offer that is unique?

It is unique in the respect that it is almost exclusively residential in character. Its retail establishments are dedicated to providing goods and services geared towards the personal needs of residents, and not their professional needs. It is also home to what many refer to as “Manhattan’s Gold Coast” – the grand buildings along Park and Fifth Avenues. Lastly, it offers residents close proximity to Central Park, which is widely considered to be our most precious amenity of all.

How are the parks?

Obviously, everyone knows about Central Park and recognizes that it is one of the world’s great city parks. Less known, and far more intimate, is Carl Schurz Park, which is located on the upper section of East End Avenue. It is probably one of the best family parks in the city. Normally people only go there if they live nearby. It is not a destination but a neighborhood amenity. Additionally, just north of Carl Schurz Park is a wonderful athletic facility called Asphalt Green. Here you can enjoy a wide variety of team sports as well as a fabulous swimming pool.

What kinds of people live on the Upper East Side?

Obviously there are all kinds of people who call the Upper East Side home and it would be an impossibility to accurately portray a general profile. However, I will say the area is very conducive to family residency and so there are lots of children and young adults. The area also attracts the Wall Street crowd and streams of foreign dignitaries. I would guess that it is as eclectic as any other upscale neighborhood you might find in Manhattan, but minus the college student influence.
